Album of the Week: Camila Cabello's Debut Album 'Camila' Review

This time last year, Camila Cabello's fans had a shocking news after the 20-year-old singer decided to quit the Fifth Harmony. They were presuming the downfall of the actress. However, Cabello, against the odds, came up with goods. She gained huge popularity with No. 2 spot in the Billboards Hot 100 'Havana'.

The song featuring Young Thug has also topped the Billboard's Pop Song airplay chart for the seventh consecutive weeks setting the record of the longest duration for a song released by a solo female for in last five years.

After one year of her independence, Cabello has released her full-length debut album on January 12, 2018. Entitled as 'Camila', the album consists of 10-track records including her solo songs 'Never Be the Same' and 'Havana'. 'Havana' is the city in Cuba where she was born and had a mesmerizing time there. Cabello sings “You’re good at making me feel small" on the break-up song ‘Something’s Gotta Give’.

Her next track ‘Consequences’ feels even more straightforward: where she tells her former love that “loving you was dumb and dark and cheap,” and also cites “lost a little weight because I wasn’t eating”. Her tracks in the album seem to suppress her biggest hit with Fifth Harmony, 'Work From Home'.

Her songs on the album have the collaboration of the diverse musical tastes. The composition of music in' Havana' takes you to South America as it is packed with Latin and Caribbean sounds. ‘She Loves Control’ has Spanish guitars and sleek reggaeton beats, whereas ‘Inside Out’ emphasizes steel drums and a mention of Cabello’s childhood in “the south side of Miami”.

Cabello seems quite impressed with the Ed Sheeran-style as she has included acoustic pop on ‘All These Years’ and ‘Real Friends’ while ‘Never Be The Same’ features bombastic electro. However, the former Fifth Harmony girl has failed to impress the gentle mix of Kesha and Lana Del Rey on "In The Dark". Still, it won't be enough to upset her wellwishers. Ultimately, has impressed everyone.
