Billie Holiday was a Jazz singer and songwriter from America. Also Known as Lester Young among her friends and music partners, she used to be called Lady Day. Holiday was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States to Sarah Julia "Sadie" Fagan and Clarence Holiday. Her father did not marry or even lived with her mother. She was often left to her mother's older married half-sister, Eva Miller. She was sent to House of Good Shepherd in January 1925. She along with her mother worked as prostitutes in Harlem in New York when she was just fourteen.

Billie Holiday had affairs and was married three times. She married Jimmy Monroe in 1941 and after seven years they divorced in 1947. She later married her boyfriend Joe Guy in 1951 and divorced him too in 1957. Her third spouse was Louis McKay whom she married in 1957 and later left him alone as she died in 1959.
