Peter Theo Curtis is an American journalist who was born on 23 October 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia. His birth name is Peter Theophilus Eaton Padnos. His parents are Michael Padnos and Nancy Curtis. He completed his bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and he received his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in comparative literature. He is known to French, Arabic, German and Russian language besides English.
He started his career as a tutor, where he taught poetry to prisoners of a local jail in Vermont. Based on this experience he published a book named "My Life has Stood a Loaded Gun". Then he migrated to Yemen and continued writing under the pen name Theo Padnos. There he studied Islam at Dar al-Hadith.
