He had revealed in an interview that he used to sleep in his car, shower in gas stations or swimming pool showers, and he was never certain of the next meal he would be having. This phase for him lasted for more than 2 years.
But he slowly and steadily made his way through in Hollywood. Harvey was a finalist in 2nd Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search that led to a long stint as the host of "Its Showtime at the Apollo". His success as a stand up comedian led to a starring role on the ABC show "Me and the Boys" in 1994. He later starred on the WB netwrok show "The Steve Harvey SHow", which ran from 1996 to 2002.
